Vintage Romain Jerome Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skull

Skulls are a big thing in fashion and Romain Jerome luxury watch brand  has added a skeleton skull watch to its range, with 12 colour versions. You could say that there is one for each month, but there is no real significance to the colours: CEO and creative director Manuel Emch simply chose his favourites from the possible range of colours available for anodized aluminium. The watch is based on the existing Skylab 48 collection, in which the case contains a minimal part of the Apollo 11 space ship. Horizontal skeletonized bars reveal the balance wheel at 6 o’clock. The aluminium skull is placed on top of the bridges.

The hour and minutes hands are rhodium plated, with a coating of blue-emission SuperLuminova. The watch has a 48 mm case in black PVD-coated steel, with steel brushed steel lugs, and a black alligator strap with stainless steel folding clasp. Sapphire watchglass and sapphire display caseback reveal something of the movement, though it is not as visible as in the original Skylab 48.

The movement is the hand-wound RJ004-M mechanical movement, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hertz), 48 hours power reserve. It is made for Romain Jerome by La Joux-Perret, a movement development and production company based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

The collection is a limited edition, with just 9 pieces for each colour. Each sells at 18,950 Swiss francs, €20,950, US$ 23,500.
