If you’re a environmentalist, then you’d agree that this Citizen Eco-Drive technology’s creation is one of the greatest things that ever happened to the industry. Produced in 1976 by Citizen, a Japanese electronics company known for their watches, the Eco-Drive is the world’s earliest quartz mechanism that is light-powered. This movement runs using any light source, whether artificial or natural, with no need for battery replacement. Ever.

In 1918, the Shokosha Watch Research Institute was founded by Japanese jeweller Kamekichi Yakamazi and began generating pocket watches. In 1924 , their initial pocket watch was sold by them under the tag Citizen. The eruption of the World War II brought a stop to the organization’s watch production. When the war finished Citizen was again back in business. This time, it had been more competitive and innovation-driven, of expanding overseas with sights. The rest, as they say, is history. Citizen continues to generate innovative and cutting-edge lines of watches that enchant watch connoisseurs the world over.

Citizen did not stop at controlling the quartz watch in the 1970s. The brand began experimenting with moves. And to the environmentalists’ joy, the now-iconic Eco-Drive technologies has been introduced, in 1976. Imagine the help when people started using it gave into the environment.
