Reviewing Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Automatic Watch

Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Automatic Watch

When it comes to dress watches, the phrase “less is more” holds great significance. Sure, there may be some disagreement as to the exact complications one would like to have in a dress watch, but I do find the addition of a seconds hand and date display to be rather helpful. The seconds hand lets you know the watch is still running (useful for mechanical watches), and the date display just makes for an overall more useful watch, taking a dress watch from one that is only worn on special occasions, to something you can wear to the office easily enough. Given that, a timepiece like the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Automatic is right up my alley. read more

New Montblanc Timewalker World-Time Hemispheres

Montblanc Timewalker World-Time Hemispheres

Montblanc introduced a pair of new world-time watches in its TimeWalker collection, called Montblanc Timewalker World-Time Hemispheres, at SIHH 2013. Each of the watches has a dial with a world-map motif as seen from the poles — one for the northern hemisphere, one for the southern. The cool twist is that the Northern Hemisphere watch only has northern cities indicated on the world-time disk; the Southern Hemisphere only has southern cities (some of which, Montblanc admitted, were rather difficult to find, since much of the Southern Hemisphere is made up of ocean). The Montblanc Timewalker Northern Hemispheres watch (pictured) comes on a leather strap and costs $4,900; the Southern Hemisphere version, on a steel bracelet, comes in at an only slightly budget-busting $5,270. read more

Montblanc TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Watch

For SIHH 2016, Montblanc is releasing a limited edition version of their prolific TimeWalker collection featuring their Exotourbillon complication and a monopusher chronograph. The Montblanc TimeWalker’s rather fascinating modern design with its skeletonized lug structure, legible dial, and accessibility at a reasonable price (a general range of something like $2,800-$7,500) renders it one of the key model lines of the brand. The Montblanc TimeWalker ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Limited Edition 100 is what the brand refers to as the “peak” of the TimeWalker line, and it’s certainly for good reason. read more

New Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Watches

At last year’s SIHH, Montblanc launched its Heritage Chronométrie collection, with designs inspired chiefly by the 1948-era Pythagore timepieces created by the storied Minerva manufacture in Villeret, Switzerland (now known as Montblanc Manufacture). This year, the brand adds to the collection with two new complications, an unusual date indication and a chronograph with annual calendar. read more

The Worst atch I Had Bought

The Worst atch I Had Bought

One would think that, me being me—someone who sees literally thousands of timepieces per year—I would be impervious to bad buys. Not so, and in fact my worst purchase came not with some trendy oversize modern watch I bought while high on French champagne and jet lag. No, the watch I most regret buying was a 1970s Tag Heuer Monaco, a true classic, but a watch that ruined a legend for me. Let me explain. read more
