Christie’s 257-lot Important Watches auction that takes place end May in Hong Kong does include some appropriately heavyweight timepieces, most of which are Patek Philippe. The million-dollar Sky Moon Tourbillon ref. 5002P for instance, and the scarce, tonneau-shaped ref. 5033P originally conceived at the request of Middle Eastern royalty.
The Hong Kong Watch Auction: Four happens at the end of the month, with 356 lots over two sessions that includes the collection of uber-retailer Laurent Picciotto of Chronopassion in Paris (which we covered in-depth here).
The rest of the auction is a diversity that encompasses everything from the weirdly pricey De Beers diamond hour glass that’s de rigueur in any Hong Kong watch auction to major collectibles like a Heuer Autavia “First Execution” and a Rolex Sea-Dweller “Golden Khanjar.
Phillips’ upcoming watch auction in Geneva is a 237-lot affair, dominated by the extraordinary, the rare, and the multi-million dollar, but still routine timepieces from Rolex and Patek Philippe. Such watches are rightly regarded as important and collectible, but not necessarily for everyone’s taste or budget. Fortunately for everyone else there is everything else, or about the remaining 40% or so of the offerings that are neither Rolex nor Patek Philippe.

It’s a 356-lot sale that encompasses diverse vintage watches as well as 42 timepieces from the collection of Laurent Picciotto, the proprietor of the famous Chronopassion store in Paris.
Taking place mid May in Geneva at the posh and secluded La Reserve hotel, The Geneva Watch Auction: Five is Phillips’ biggest to date, with 237 lots going under the hammer over two days. A quarter of the catalogue are Patek Philippe timepieces, including pocket watches, a dome clock, as well as a diverse line-up of wristwatches with a notable number of examples in pink gold.
